Earwigs are typically reddish brown in color and are about ¾ of an inch in length.  Their most common feature is pincers on their hind quarters. They a nocturnal and prefer damp areas such as underneath rocks, in landscaping and mulch.  They feed on plants, flowers and vegetable gardens causing unwanted damage. They seek harborage inside of structures for warmth or food.

Are Earwigs Dangerous?

Although the earwigs’ appearance may be intimidating, they pose no threat to humans. The pincers are used to defend themselves from rivals.
