House Centipedes (Scutigera coleptrata) are common throughout the US. Yellow greyish in color this centipede has up to 15 pairs of legs and kills and eats other anthropoids such as bed bugs, silverfish and ants. The body of an adult ranges from 1 to 1 ½ inches in length. They can run across floors, up walls and across at a rapid speed. Hatching in the Spring, they prefer cool and damp places such as beneath rocks or wood piles. Indoors, they are commonly found living in basements, bathrooms and utility rooms.
