Averaging about ¼ inch in length, Filth Flies can be found in a variety of colors and measure approximate ¼ inch in length. Not only is thier flying around a nuisance they are known to carry diseases. They typically feed on decaying plant and animal matter and then contaminate food and food prep surfaces.
Filth flies mostly bread in outside structures. They are scavengers and feed mainly on decomposing animal and vegetable matter before contaminating human foods and food preparation surfaces by landing on them. They may also contaminate food and surfaces by defecating on them.
Are Filth Flies Dangerous?
Filth flies carry diseases and are dangerous to humans. The diseases are spread in a matter of seconds after contract and include typhoid, cholera and salmonella. They have also been known to carry parasitic worms.
