SPIDERS

Spiders are very common in the US and there are over 45,000 species worldwide.  Most spiders found in the Omaha area are relatively harmless.  The ones of most concern are the common house spider, brown recluse spiders and black widow spiders.

The Brown Recluse Spider measures ¼ an inch and are tan to dark brown with a fiddle shaped marking on its back. These spiders typically live outdoors under piles of wood, debris and stones.  Inside the home, they can be found in attics, crawlspaces, garages and basements.

The female Black Widow Spider measures 1 ½ an inch and most often feature a red hourglass shape on the abdomen.  Black widow spiders are frequently found in garages, in barbecue grills, around swimming pools, and in wood piles.

Are Spiders Dangerous?

Many people experience welts or bite marks from many different types of spiders.  Brown Recluse and Black Widow spiders are dangerous and may require medical attention.
